Artist Ita Mehrotra and illustrator Sofia Sabbagh sit down to discuss graphic storytelling as a powerful tool of resistance and political engagement in our current moment.

Ita Mehrotra is a graphic novelist and artist educator based out of New Delhi, India. She is the author of the highly acclaimed Shaheen Bagh, A Graphic Recollection (Yoda Press, 2021), which brings together moments and memories from the Anti-CAA protests across India. Her upcoming book Uprooted (Westland Books, 2025) is a graphic account of particular forest rights struggles in India. Ita’s non-fiction comics and illustrated stories, often stemming from engagements within socio-political and feminist movements around her, have been published and exhibited widely over the past decade with The Wire, Goethe Institute, Fumetto Festival Lucerne, Zubaan Books, Yoda Press, Ad Astra Comix (Canada), popula.com, and KHOJ Artists Association, among others. Ita leads arts programmes with community libraries and rural schools across India, and is Visiting Faculty at Ashoka University.
